ASCENSION — A group of young gridiron stars from Ascension Parish is turning heads — and making history — as they prepare to represent Louisiana in flag football at the 2025 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston, Texas.
The LA Prospects, a junior flag football team made up of local athletes, earned their spot at the nation’s largest youth multi-sport event after a standout performance at a national qualifier tournament in Florida. The team placed fourth out of 18 highly competitive teams, clinching their ticket to compete among 21 elite teams from across the country.
The Junior Olympics will take place July 22 through August 2, with the Prospects set to hit the field July 25–27. The games will unfold at some of Houston’s top athletic venues, continuing the city’s tradition of hosting the Junior Olympics, as it has done previously in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
“It’s a huge deal,” said Alison Kaigler, mom of LA Prospects player Jaxon Kaigler. “Watching my child compete in travel flag football tournaments has been incredibly exciting and rewarding. Each game brings a rush of energy and pride as I see their hard work, teamwork, and determination on full display.”
The team, which has been playing together for two years, is made up of boys who have been involved in football for much longer — and their dedication is clearly paying off.
“Being able to travel and play at various venues, including the iconic IMG Academy, has been an unforgettable experience,” Kaigler added. “I’m not sure we’ll ever get an opportunity like that again, so it was awesome.”
As they head to Houston, the LA Prospects are gearing up to show the rest of the nation what Louisiana youth football is all about — passion, skill, and plenty of heart.
