Laine Hardy turned himself into the LSU Police Dept. Friday morning, April 29, 2022. He flew back to Louisiana from Nashville late Thursday night in order to turn himself in today. From there, he was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Hardy is charged with one count of interception and disclosure of wire, electronic, or oral communication. The charge is a felony in connection to a case in Feb. 2022 with a now ex-girlfriend.
Hardy is accused of putting an audio recording device in his then girlfriend’s dorm to see if she was cheating on him. Sources close to the case said when Hardy confronted his girlfriend about whether she was cheating on him, she supposedly said that she was not. That’s when Hardy told her that he knew she was lying because he had proof and admitted he put a recording device in her dorm roughly two months ago.
According to Hardy’s probable cause for arrest, LSU PD were dispatched to Azalea Hall at LSU on April 7, 2022, where a recording device was found in the ex-girlfriend’s dorm room. She told officers that she found the device while watching a movie with her roommate under her futon, which is under her bunk bed. She told officers she believed her ex-boyfriend, Hardy, left the recorder.
The two dates from Nov. 2021 through Feb. 2022, which police said is when she learned of the crime but it was not reported till April.
She further added that on the weekend of Feb 18, 2022, she found a fake social media account on Hardy’s phone that he allegedly used to “cover up that he was illegally recording her when he was not around.” She said Hardy knew details “on her actions” and that’s when he admitted he bugged her room.
Officials said both the ex-girlfriend and Hardy’s voices were heard on the recorder.
