Lamendola’s Supermarket holding dedication ceremony and fundraiser for employee who was allegedly murdered by husband

GONZALES — A fundraiser and dedication ceremony are being held in honor of Brenda Thomas-Morris, a beloved employee at Lamendola’s Supermarket who was murdered last month.

Morris touched many lives with her kindness and infectious smile during her 13 years at Lamendola’s. The store is organizing a fundraiser to help cover her daughter’s graduation expenses as she starts her senior year of high school next month.

The money will help pay for items such as her cap and gown, senior trip, and college fund, according to the supermarket. Donations can be made at the register through July 9. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 9, where her community and loved ones can gather to honor her memory.

“Patricia’s brothers have shared that their biggest wish is for their baby sister to be taken care of, and we want to help make that happen,” the store said.

Morris was allegedly killed during an argument with her husband, Sean Morris, at their home on Garcon Rd. in Gonzales on June 26. Investigators say that Sean Morris shot Brenda multiple times. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and eight counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Brenda was a breast cancer survivor and a talented cook in Lamendola’s deli.

“She inspired us all with her resilience and unwavering positivity,” the supermarket posted on Facebook. “Her laughter and love filled our store, creating a sense of community and joy that will be irreplaceably missed. Words cannot express how much Brenda meant to us and how deeply she will be missed.”

Many friends, coworkers, and loyal customers have shared poignant memories of the amazing person she was and how she positively impacted the community.

“Brenda was a friend and light to so many,” said Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson. That her heart, smile, and generosity were violently and needlessly taken from those who cared for her is beyond words. All of us at GPD extend her family and loved ones our deepest condolences. Know that we grieve with you.”
