Large amount of mace triggers hazmat situation at BR motel

BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge motel had to be evacuated ahead of firefighters responding to a hazmat situation.

It was around 7:30pm on Tuesday, June 20 when St. George & Baton Rouge firefighters responded to the 10600 block of Rieger Rd. at the Trident Inn.

Several guests at the motel were complaining of difficulty breathing due to an unknown chemical, according to officials.

It’s why precautionary measures were taken and crews entered the building to begin investigating and secure the evacuation.

After an investigation of the scene, it was determined that a large amount of mace had been sprayed and traveled through the HVAC system.

No patients were transported to any hospitals.
