Last 24 hours in Baton Rouge: Nine people shot in six shootings, two of them died

BATON ROUGE, La. — In a 16-hour timeframe in Baton Rouge, nine people were shot in six separate shootings. Of the nine shot, two people died.

Starting around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, BRPD officers responded to two double shooting scenes while two others included one victim at each scene. Earlier in the day on Feb. 8, 18-yr-old Tyre Everson was shot multiple times and killed on the porch of a home.

Then, three hours later around 3 p.m. on Feb. 8, there was a double shooting in which one person died on 75th Ave.

It was just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8 when officers responded to a double shooting at the Howell Place Apartments on 72nd Ave. One person was found shot in a vehicle while a second person was shot in the hand. A third person was injured but not from the shooting. Instead, they were injured running away from the scene. All three people were transported to a hospital.

About two hours later just before midnight, one person was found shot twice in the front yard of a home in the 3200 block of Canonicus St. During this shooting, bullets also hit a home in the area that was occupied at the time, but no one inside was injured.

Around 2 a.m., Baton Rouge Police officers were called out to the DJ’s Club Elite on Tom Dr. That’s between Wooddale and Lobdell boulevards. Two men were shot and transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of the injured was found shot inside the club.

Around 4 a.m., a man was shot in the back while riding a bike. He was shot near the intersection of S. 14th St. and Bynum Ave. He was transported to a hospital and his condition is unknown.

All the shootings are under investigation and it’s unclear at this time what the motives were for the six shootings. It’s unknown at this time if any arrests have been made in connection to the shootings.
