ST. GEORGE — Licking for Love Dog Rescue is on the lookout for a forever home of its own. The dog rescue is asking for the community’s help to make its dream of buying a permanent facility, a reality.
Since it started in October 2023, Licking for Love has rescued and adopted out more than 800 dogs, thanks to a network of dedicated foster families. The rescue says a brick and mortar facility would allow it to have an even greater impact by offering safe shelter for more dogs and responding faster in emergencies.
“We are dedicated to providing unwavering love, compassionate care, essential medical treatment, and vital training so every dog has a chance at a healthy, fulfilling life,” said Courtney Turner, the founder of Licking for Love.
“This facility will not only expand our rescue efforts but also give us the ability to host programs that directly benefit the pets and people of the city of St. George,” Turner said.
Some of those programs Turner hopes to host once Licking for Love finds a new facility include:
- Low-cost vaccine and microchip days
- Spay/neuter clinics to combat overpopulation
- Training and educational programs for responsible pet ownership
- Fun, family-friendly events that connect neighbors and strengthen community bonds
Licking for Love says a permanent facility would transform the rescue’s capacity. Right now, it is a foster-based organization, so intake is limited to foster homes. A permanent space would ensure dogs in need have a safe place to go.
St. George Mayor Dustin Yates sees the community benefits in the rescue getting a permanent location. “The work of Licking for Love embodies the values we hold dear: compassion, service, and community spirit. Supporting this effort means investing in both the welfare of our animals and the bonds that make our city strong,” he said.
