BATON ROUGE — South Louisiana is experiencing a historic winter weather event, with snow falling for nearly 12 hours Tuesday. Numerous areas are asking people to conserve water and East Iberville has issued a boil advisory.
Many roads are still being worked on and some crashes were reported in multiple parishes Thursday morning. However, roads are continuing to open up as DOTD works on major highways.
Below is a summary of how various parishes are responding to the conditions, including reports of power outages and curfews.
As of noon Thursday, there are 1,727 customers without power in the state. Our area’s numbers have dramatically diminished since early reports of outages on Wednesday.
Ascension Parish: Dusk to dawn curfew
The Ascension Water Company released a notice that there is high demand on the water system right now. They are asking customers not to drip water during the day and at night to only run water for about 20-30 seconds periodically through the night. Use both hot and cold taps.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Gonzales Police Department have implemented a mandatory curfew for all residents due to the ongoing winter storm.
Curfew Hours:
- Effective from Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6:00 PM to Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 AM.
“The current weather conditions have made roads extremely dangerous, and we urge everyone to stay off them during the curfew hours unless absolutely necessary,” Sheriff Webre said. “This curfew is not only about personal safety but also about aiding first responders in their critical work.”
- Power Outages: No reported outages as of Thursday at noon.
Assumption Parish
Sheriff’s Office: “We urge everyone to stay off of the roadways unless absolutely necessary. Bridges and road surfaces are becoming impassable. The slippery roadway conditions could last into Thursday and Friday as temperatures will remain extremely cold.”
DOTD reports that U.S. 90 in both directions between Amelia and Des Allemonds is still closed.

East Baton Rouge Parish
- Road Closures:
Nearly 30 miles of roads, including portions of Interstates 10 and 110 remain closed due to hazardous conditions. Many of these roads will stay barricaded through Thursday. (See list of road closures) DOTD reports that I-12 eastbound from Airline Highway to the Amite River Bridge is NOW OPEN - Power Outages:
Less than 70 customers are in an outage.

East Feliciana Parish
Power outages: More than 460 customers in East Feliciana Parish are experiencing power outages. No Entergy customers are without power at this time.
The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff commended residents on doing their part to be safe and reduce the risk on roadways over the past two days via a Facebook post:
Iberville Parish: Essential water use only
- Conserving Water: Iberville Parish Government has put out a notice to conserve water due to strain on the system from increased demand. Some residents are reporting low pressure or no water.
- A boil alert advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure due to the loss of water pressure within the East Iberville Water System. The boil advisory will be lifted when LA Dept. of Health and Hospitals testing indicates no contamination in the water supply.
- Trash Pickup Not Running: Pelican Waste & Debris is advising all Iberville Parish residents that it will not pickup trash on Thursday due to road conditions. The business and parish government will update residents on more information as soon as it becomes available.
Curfew: A dusk-to-dawn curfew was in effect from Jan. 21 to Jan. 22.
Statement from Parish President Chris Daigle: “It’s dangerous driving conditions, and we don’t want our emergency personnel put in any additional danger.”
Power Outages: There are currently no reported power outages in the parish.
Livingston Parish: Dusk to dawn curfew Wednesday into Thursday
- Curfew: A curfew is in effect from dusk Wednesday until dawn Thursday.
- Officials are asking everyone to stay off the roads unless it’s an emergency.
“After careful consideration and discussions with the Sheriff, we’ve made the collective decision to implement another curfew tonight from dusk to dawn. - Power Outages: Less than 10 customers are reported to be without electricity parish-wide.
Pointe Coupee Parish: Dusk to dawn curfew
- Curfew: In effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
- Power Outages: There are currently no reported power outages in the parish.

St. Helena Parish
St. Helena Parish Sheriff Clay Shutz is urging people to stay off the roads and the sheriff’s offices will stay closed on Wednesday.
“Road conditions are not good. We’re asking everyone to stay off the road — stay home, stay, warm, and stay dry. And have a safe snow event,” Shutz said in a video Tuesday.
Power Outages: Less than 5 customers in St. Helena were reported to be without power Thursday at noon.
Tangipahoa Parish
Power Outages: Less than 5 customers are experiencing power outages on Thursday.
