EAST BATON ROUGE — A 39-year-old man is fighting for his life and looking at additional surgeries after a crash Monday morning.
Owen Roberthon, 39, of Livingston, was headed to work at B & J’s Metal Buildings on Wax Rd. around 7:45 a.m. on June 24 when he hit a pothole on Liberty Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish, according to his employer Josh Austin.
Austin tells UWK that pothole caused Roberthon to lose control before hitting a tree near the intersection of Liberty & Greenwell Springs Port Hudson roads in East Baton Rouge Parish. He was trapped in his truck after the airbags deployed. He had to be extricated out of his truck.
He was airlifted to a hospital. Due to several fractures in his leg, it had to be amputated up to hip. He now will have to undergo numerous other surgeries on his leg.
“Everything else has not been determined and he is not out of the wood by any means,” said Austin. “He still has air around his lungs and his spine is broken. He will need many prayers and has a long road ahead. We are praying he makes it.”
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies, Central Police and Pride firefighters responded to the call. The Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into the crash.
