LIVINGSTON — A 67-year-old Walker man was recently sentenced after he pled guilty to 120 combined counts of aggravated crimes against nature, second degree rape, and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Along with prison time, a judge ordered that the man also be physically castrated.
Marc Rager, Sr. was arrested in 2024 by Walker Police for allegations of sexual misconduct with a juvenile that took place over a period of two years.
On Sept. 3, Judge Brenda Bedsole Ricks sentenced Rager to 99 years in prison for the more than 100 counts of sexual crimes he committed against the juvenile victim.
As a condition of Rager’s plea, Assistant District Attorney Greg Stahlnecker, Jr., who prosecuted the case, asked that Rager be ordered to be physically castrated.
“This plea was taken after consideration for the victim. She will never be able to get back what Mr. Rager took from her; however, with this plea, she can begin the road to recovery without having to go through a trial and relive the nearly two years of abuse that she suffered from the defendant,” said Stahlnecker. “These were heinous acts committed by a monster.”
He went on to say that the lengthy sentence will almost certainly ensure that Rager will spend the rest of his life behind bars, unable to hurt his victim or anyone else again: “That is justice.”
Louisiana Attorney General released a statement Tuesday afternoon regarding another case where 19th Judicial Court District Attorney Hillar Moore is considering both the death penalty and castration of a man who recently turned himself in. That man, Anthony Jelks Jr., is accused of raping a four-year-old who then tested positive for a sexually transmitted disease.
“Life in prison is inadequate for cases like this,” Murrill said in her statement. “I’ll do everything within my power to support the District Attorney in the case and obtain justice for this little girl, whose innocence was stolen by this vile act, including seeking reversal of United States Supreme Court precedent blocking the death penalty for rape of a child.”
