Livingston Parish man convicted in million dollar drug bust

LIVINGSTON PARISH — A 32-year-old Livingston Parish man has been convicted of trying to distribute nearly a million dollars worth of drugs.

The 21st Judicial District in Livingston Parish announced the conviction of Devonte Skinner, of Tickfaw.

The man in a million dollar drug seizure was convicted on April 24th of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

In April of 2023, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at Skinner’s home where deputies said he had possible involvement in drug activity.

From that search warrant, Livingston deputies say they seized over two pounds of powdered fentanyl, over 3,700 pressed fentanyl pills, approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine along with cash and digital scales and packaging material.

District Attorney Scott Perrilloux estimates a street value of approximately $1 million dollars. At the time of the arrest, this was the largest fentanyl seizure in Livingston Parish.

“This was great work on the part of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. There can be little doubt that their efforts in keeping those drugs from hitting the streets, resulted in lives being saved. My office will continue to devote maximum efforts to make certain that those who are distributing fentanyl will be removed from our communities and locked up for as much time as possible.” Perrilloux said.

The jury returned their verdict in less than 30 minutes finding Skinner guilty of all three counts.

Judge Charlotte Foster remanded Skinner to jail with no bond and set his sentencing for May 22, 2024.

A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
