LIVINGSTON —- The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old accused of shooting an 11-year-old child.
Deputies arrested Ja-‘den James, 17, of Tickfaw and he’s facing charges for illegal use of a weapons, illegal possession of a handgun and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
It comes after a shooting on Ed Brown Rd. in Tickfaw on May 11, 2024 around 8:30 p.m., in which an 11-yr-old girl was shot as an innocent bystander. There were actually two shootings that night. The other happened on Dubois Lane in Denham Springs around 8 p.m.
11-year-old girl shot
In the Tickfaw shooting, the 11-yr-old girl is now back home and recovering, according to her family.
Officials say there was a shooting outside a home on May 11th involving at least three people with the little girl caught in the middle. Deputies found multiple shell casings at the scene.
She was transported for surgery and was listed in critical condition at that time.
“We believe this little girl was an innocent bystander. She was inside a nearby residence when struck,” said LPSO Sheriff Jason Ard.
Denham Springs shooting
In Denham Springs, deputies found a 43-year-old man, who had been shot in the chest. He was transported to a hospital.
Early reports indicate his neighbor, Royce Cash, 23, allegedly fired several shots that hit the victim’s home, with a bullet hitting the man. LPSO says the shooting appears to have been the result of an ongoing argument between the two.
Cash was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.
