Livingston Parish: Two shootings Saturday night, one involves young girl as innocent bystander

LIVINGSTON —- The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate shooting that happened overnight in the parish. One of them involves an 11-yr-old child shot as an innocent bystander.

One happened on Dubois Lane in Denham Springs around 8 p.m. on May 11, 2024 and the other on Ed Brown Rd. in Tickfaw around 8:30 p.m.

In Denham Springs, deputies found a 43-year-old man, who had been shot in the chest. He was transported to a hospital.

Early reports indicate his neighbor, Royce Cash, 23, allegedly fired several shots that hit the victim’s home, with a bullet hitting the man. LPSO says the shooting appears to have been the result of an ongoing argument between the two.

Cash was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.

About 30 minutes later, LPSO deputies responded to Ed Brown Rd. where an 11-yr-old girl was shot.

She was transported for surgery and is currently listed as critical condition at this time.

“We believe this little girl was an innocent bystander. She was inside a nearby residence when struck,” said LPSO Sheriff Jason Ard.

Officials say there was a shooting outside a home involving at least three people with the little girl caught in the middle. Deputies found multiple shell casings at the scene.

Both cases remain under investigation.

Anyone with information on either case is encouraged to call LPSO at 225-686-2241 x1 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
