DENHAM SPRINGS — Firefighters in Livingston Parish have gotten control of a fast-moving wildfire that threatened homes in Denham Springs Tuesday afternoon.
The fire along Arnold Rd. just east of Myers Rd. got inches from homes as fire officials worked feverishly to get the fire under control. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. as a grass fire. Livingston Parish District 5 fire chief Joe Koczrowski says people in that area were bailing hay and that some of their equipment caught fire.
Between the high winds and dry conditions, the fire spread quickly, Koczrowski said.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office posted a photo Tuesday night showing just how close the fire got to homes. The fire was so intense at one point, officials considered evacuating residents in the Sharee Place neighborhood.
Koczrowski says a forestry plane was in the air helping crews get a handle on the fire. They also used infrared drones to put out hot spots.
Photos and video from the area showed a raging fire just feet from Arnold Rd. Thick smoke was choking the area, and deputies were forced to close the road to traffic.
Deputies were able to reopen Arnold Rd. Tuesday night.
The fire in Livingston Parish comes as crews in Ascension Parish continue battling a wildfire that has threatened homes and led to evacuations over the weekend. That fire in Galvez near Port Vincent has burned more than 200 acres over the past eight days.
Crews there say they’re finally getting the upper hand on that fire. No homes are currently being threatened.
