LIVINGSTON PARISH — A 41-year-old woman is behind bars facing multiple charges including forgery and identity theft after officials say she allegedly collected benefits meant for a beneficiary of a deceased member of a retirement system.
Kelli Gordon Guitrau, 41, from the Town of Livingston, was arrested on July 28th for government benefits fraud, theft, identity theft and forgery. All four are felonies.
Guitrau is accused of stealing more than $10,000 in Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) benefits between March 2022 and January 2024 by allegedly forging documents. Officials accuse Guitrau of signing documents that requested to transfer the beneficiary’s funds to an account controlled by Guitrau. The nearly $10,000 were originally meant for a member of the TRSL, who had since died.
The TRSL reached out to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office requesting them to investigate the matter. TRSL says they received a complaint from the beneficiary of a deceased member alleging that Guitrau had been fraudulently receiving benefits intended for the complainant.
Agents arrested Guitrau in Livingston Parish on a warrant on the four felonies. Officials say Guitrau was also wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court on unrelated charges.
Guitrau is now behind bars at the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Her bond is set at $25,854.00.
