LIVINGSTON — A woman involved in a 2021 car crash in Killian that killed a Denham Springs woman has been sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay a fine. On July 21, 2025, Kelli Lemoine pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
On Aug. 4, a judge sentenced Lemoine to five years at the Department of Corrections (DOC) and to pay a $2,000 fine. She was remanded to the DOC after sentencing.
On July 18, 2021, Lemoine was involved in a car crash in Killian that claimed the life of Brittany Costello. The Killian Police Department initially responded to the scene and requested that Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office conduct the investigation.
Both Costello and Lemoine were traveling in opposite directions near the south end of the Killian Bridge when Lemoine lost control of her vehicle and crossed the center line, according to LPSO. That’s when she hit Costello’s vehicle.
Costello died of her injuries, and Lemoine was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, officials reported.
According to prosecutors, Lemoine’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level was “in excess of .20;.” A level of .08 is considered intoxicated per Louisiana law. This BAC level designated the crash as a “crime of violence,” the district attorney’s office added.
In October 2021, Lemoine was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless operation, driving under suspension, and an outstanding bench warrant. She was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center, but bonded out at $102,797.
