Livonia cancels football game Friday following classroom fight

Livonia High School announced the football team’s regular season opener at home against Port Barre Friday night is canceled.

The school had originally announced earlier Friday that the game would go on but only coaches, emergency services, law enforcement and other essential personnel would be allowed.

A couple of fights happened at the school this week, capped off by a fight in a classroom Thursday that sent one child to the hospital.

The Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incidents.

Livonia was placed on lockdown following the fight on Thursday morning. The school was closed Friday and will reopen on Tuesday, September 6.

Tickets purchased in advance for the game will be refunded to the credit cards on file.
