ASCENSION — The Life House, a local recovery organization dedicated to assisting men and women in overcoming setbacks and reclaiming their independence, is looking for partners for jobs for people enrolled in their center. The ministry-based organization, whose name stands for Living in Freedom Everyday, provides a structured, year-long, faith-based program designed to help individuals get back on their feet.
“We are a year-long commitment, faith-based pathway to freedom, as we like to call it, for men and women,” explained William Maher, the Workforce Director of Life House. “For their first six months here, we have our own staffing company. That’s how they can pay their fees. They work through us until about the six-month mark, and then they go direct hire.”
The Life House has seen tremendous growth recently, expanding its reach and facilities. “We have two men’s campuses in Alabama, a women’s campus in Alabama, and now we are about to open another women’s campus in DeQuincy,” Maher shared.
One of the core components of Life House’s success is its strong partnerships with both major corporations and small businesses, which help provide employment opportunities for those in their care. Currently, the organization is seeking more partners to provide job opportunities for women in their program.
“We’ve found over time that if we have them involved in things outside the community and outside of, you know, the ‘recovery atmosphere,’ they have a lot better chances of surviving,” Maher explained. “So that is what we are looking for, is some partners to join up with us, to put these awesome people to work.”
Life House already collaborates with a variety of businesses for jobs, including Ascension Parish Government, McDonald’s, Ralph’s, Brown and Root, Capital Concrete, and Picou Builders. Despite these partnerships, they have faced challenges in securing diverse job opportunities for women and are actively seeking more companies to collaborate with, aiming to offer greater diversity and options for female participants.
