GEISMAR — A 28-year-old Carville man died in an early morning motorcycle crash on LA 30, east of LA 73 on Feb. 6. He leaves behind a wife and 1-year-old son.
Craig Burns died of his injuries from a crash on LA 30. His wife, Kelsi Burns, said he was on his way to work when another vehicle pulled out from a private road in front of Burns. Unable to stop in time, Burns’ motorcycle crashed into the car, according to State Police.
Kelsi told UWK her husband was a “very loving and caring” man, someone she’d been with for 10 years altogether. They married in 2023, she added.
“He had just become a father, and we have a one-year-old son, Craig, Jr.,” Kelsi said. “He was very, very excited and had lots of dreams and hopes for fatherhood and things he wanted to do with Craig Jr.”
Burns enjoyed riding his motorcycle, a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja, too.
“He would attend car shows and sport bike groups he had on Facebook, meetups and things like that,” Kelsi said.
At the time of the crash, Burns was wearing a DOT-approved helmet and received serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
“He was a very safe rider—Never without his helmet or his safety vest,” Kelsi said.
She wants to remind drivers to be extra cautious and watch for motorcycles.
“Looking twice can save a life. Pause or wait an extra second before turning or changing lanes when encountering motorcycles. Always check blind spots and mirrors.”
She also urges bikers to ride defensively and to always ride with a helmet and reflective clothing, just like her husband did.
Funeral arrangements
The family is holding a funeral at Charity Christian Center (871 O’Neal Lane, Baton Rouge) on Saturday, Feb. 21st. They’re asking for any motorcyclists, personal riders or professionals, to join the funeral procession after the service.
Burns will be buried at Resthaven Gardens of Memory (11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge). Those interested in riding in the procession are asked to gather across the street from the church around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, with the procession to begin at 12:30 p.m. The family is working with local law enforcement to coordinate the procession, they added.
Burns’ family is planning to wear red to honor him and display his favorite color.
“Red was Craig’s favorite color, so it would be great if they could have on red or a touch of red,” added Kelsi’s mother, Shaneka Bradford.
