BATON ROUGE — Louisiana’s Open Primary is coming up on October 11, and voters across the state will see a mix of local races on their ballots. Many contests only affect specific districts or wards rather than the entire parish, so it’s important to know what’s on your ballot and where you’re assigned to vote.

Dates to know
- Sept. 10: Deadline to register to vote
- Sept. 27: First day for early voting
- Oct. 7: Deadline for absentee ballot request
- Oct. 11: Election Day! Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. across the state

Where to vote
You can check your polling place through the Louisiana Voter Portal or by calling your parish Registrar of Voters. Your voter information card, which is sent to you by mail, also lists where you’re assigned to vote. Double-check now so you’re sure to head to the right location on Election Day.
Early Voting
You do not need a reason to vote early, and each parish has various locations where you can cast your ballot before the October 11 primary.
Early voting for the October 11 primary begins September 27 and runs through October 4 from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. There is no early voting on Sunday, September 28.
You will need one of the following when you go to the polls to cast your vote:
- Driver’s license
- Louisiana Special ID
- LA Wallet digital driver’s license
- United States military identification card that contains voter’s name and picture
- Another generally recognized picture ID that contains voter’s name and signature

Voters who have no picture ID may complete and sign a Voter Identification Affidavit in order to vote; however, it is subject to challenge by law.
