BATON ROUGE — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its latest flu data, and Louisiana is still reporting among the highest flu activity in the U.S.
The latest data, which is for the week of Dec. 21 – Dec. 27, shows Louisiana is one of about 20 states to have “very high” flu activity.
According to the latest information, positive flu tests were up nearly 33% nationally for the week ending in Dec. 27, and influenza A is the most common strain. 33,301 people were admitted to the hospital for the flu.

BATON ROUGE — New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows Louisiana has among the most flu activity in the nation.
The CDC’s latest FluView map shows Louisiana’s flu activity is at a “very high” activity level, colored in the darkest purple on the map’s key. Colorado, New York, New Jersey, and South Carolina also have “very high” flu activity right now.
Experts say traveling through airports and congregating in large groups around the holidays makes the spread worse. This year,AAA projected record holiday travel.
The new data is from the week of Dec. 14 – Dec. 20. The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) isn’t updating state information until after the new year, but LDH’s data from Dec. 13 shows more than 3,500 cases in the state.
According to the CDC, nationally, positive flu tests are up 25%, influenza A is the most frequently reported virus, and 19,053 were admitted into hospitals with the flu.
