BATON ROUGE — Louisiana SNAP recipients are now receiving their full November benefits following the federal government’s reopening, Gov. Jeff Landry announced. The longest shutdown in U.S. history ended last week when President Donald Trump signed a spending package that reopens the government and funds most of it through January.
More than 800,000 Louisiana residents rely on SNAP benefits each month. The state used emergency funding earlier this month to cover a portion of benefits that were delayed during the shutdown. Elderly and disabled SNAP recipients will also receive supplemental funds because they received only 25% of their usual benefits from Nov. 1–4.

“When my team saw that Washington’s shutdown was about to leave our most vulnerable citizens without the help they depend on, we immediately got to work,” Governor Landry said. “Because we’ve been fiscally responsible here at home, we had the ability to step in and make sure folks didn’t go hungry. That’s why we used state-funded assistance until the federal government got its act together.”
