BATON ROUGE — Louisiana’s Annual Love The Boot Week kicks off on April 18, and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser is hoping this year is bigger, better, and cleaner than ever.
“As of April 7, we have 1060 events scheduled in all 64 parishes,” Nungesser said. “We’re hoping the top 1,500 events this year to beat the 1,400-plus we had last year.”
According to Keep Louisiana Beautiful, in 2025:
- 26,935 individuals volunteered
- 81,852 hours volunteered
- 1,408 events
- Record 514 tons of litter in all 64 parishes
Love The Boot Week is the state’s largest litter removal and beautification movement of the year. This year, as America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, Lieutenant Governor Nungesser is challenging everyone to pickup at least 250 pieces of litter.

“We just hosted the Keep America Beautiful conference in New Orleans. At that conference, we asked every American to pick up 250 pieces of litter before July 4, in celebration of the 250 anniversary of America,” Nungesser said. “We’re asking every Louisiana to do the same. If you can’t get outdoor and love to boot week, make sure you go out and pick up 250 pieces of litter before July 4 to help us clean up the country.”
If you want to get involved but aren’t registered for an event yet, there’s still time.
“Go to lovetheboot.org and you can either join an existing group or sign up for a new group,” Nungesser said.
Year-round effort
While there will be a big push to clean up during Love The Boot Week from April 18-26, you can clean up year-round, and get some help from your local library. “We also have the grabbers and vests at most of the libraries, and you can check them out,” he said. “They’ll give you all the tools you need to go clean up in your neighborhood. And that’s year-round.”
“It’s a beautiful country we have, and we have a beautiful Louisiana. It’s a sportsman’s paradise,” Nungesser said. “It’s about quality of life, it’s tourism, it’s economic development. but we need to clean up this beautiful state, in this beautiful country we live in, and not take it for granted.”
