LPSO alerts residents to jury duty scam

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is aware of a scam circulating the area that can impact residents

LPSO says scammers hoping for free money are using telephones to contact residents. Officials say the scammer identifies as a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy over the phone. The scammer tells the potential victim that they have missed jury duty and explains the fines associated with it.

LPSO officials say the scammer then tells the person to visit Walgreens and purchase a Visa gift card. Once the scammer can access the cards, they claim the issue will be resolved. In one instance, someone paid $2,900.

Important notes

  • The LPSO does not conduct business in this manner. They do not accept payments in the form of gift cards
  • If you are contacted by a scammer, hang up and contact the LPSO at 225-686-2241 x1
  • Don’t give out your personal information
