LSU football up to No. 7 in CFP rankings

Following its victory over Alabama in overtime at Tiger Stadium, LSU moved up three spots to No. 7 in the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings released Tuesday night.

LSU is the highest-ranked two-loss team in Tuesday’s rankings. Alabama dropped to No. 9 following Saturday’s 31-30 loss. LSU might have a chance to make it into the CFP as a two-loss team if it wins out as SEC champs, according to ESPN.

LSU was fined $250.000 earlier this week after fans stormed the field following Saturday’s win. It was LSU’s fourth offense under the rule that prevents fans from entering the playing surface of athletic events.

The program was fined $250,000 for violating the same policy last month following a win over Ole Miss.

After a dominant two-touchdown victory over previous No. 1 Tennessee on Saturday, Georgia claimed the top spot in the rankings. Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Michigan are at No. 2 and 3 respectively.

TCU jumped three spots into the No. 4 spot heading into Saturday’s clash with No. 18 Texas. Tennessee dropped to No. 5.

Oregon (6), USC (8) and Clemson (10) round out the Top 10.
