BATON ROUGE — A man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend by shooting her when she brought snacks to his house has now been arrested.
At the time of the crime, he was out on bond from a January arrest, according to court records.
After the woman was shot, she tried to drive away. Records show her attacker got into the vehicle before she escaped and tried to shoot her in the head. The gun did not fire. That’s when he told her to drive away.
She told her boyfriend that she was unable to drive and suggested that he should drive. When he got out of the passenger seat to go around the vehicle and get into the driver’s seat, she sped away, records stated.
She asked for help at a nearby gas station.
Tyren Scott, 30, was booked with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The shooting happened March 20 in the 2000 block of S. Flannery Road. The victim told deputies she’s been in an on again/off again relationship with Scott for about 15 years. She knew he was upset that she hadn’t been answering his calls, the warrant said.
She went to his house to deliver snacks and a drink. She was sitting in her vehicle talking to Scott’s mother when Scott arrived.
She said he demanded that she open the door. She tried to back out of the driveway, but said Scott pulled a gun and fired repeatedly, hitting her and the vehicle, the warrant said.
As she was trying to maneuver away from the house, she had to stop and put her vehicle into “park,” which automatically unlocked the doors. She said she was afraid she was going to lose consciousness.
She said Scott got into the passenger seat. He “pointed the handgun at her head and pulled the trigger,” according to the warrant.
She said he fired more shots at her as she drove away, according to the warrant.
Scott was captured in Beaumont, Texas on March 27 by the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force and Beaumont Police.
January 2026 arrest
At the time of the shooting, Scott was out on $30,000 bond in a January arrest.
He was arrested Jan. 17 after a 10-minute vehicle and foot pursuit that ended with Scott wrestling with a police officer in Capitol Lake, according to court records. He was booked with battery of a police officer, handling of machine guns, speeding, aggravated criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, aggravated flight from an officer, obstruction of justice, improper display of a temporary license plate and hit-and-run driving.
The machine gun charge was based on a Glock .40-caliber pistol police said they found in his vehicle after the pursuit. It did not have a back plate and the arresting officer said he suspected Scott had disposed of the additional hardware that turns the semi-automatic pistol into a machine gun, according to court records.
He was released on bond 10 days later.
Court records show Scott has a 2019 conviction for possession of Xanax.
A bond revocation hearing is set for April 16.
