
PONCHATOULA — A 19-year-old was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother.
According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office officials, Jonathan Payne Kliebert was arrested in the death of his 46-year-old mother, Ashley Kliebert.
Authorities say Jonathan called 911 around 1:45 a.m., saying he shot and killed his mother at their home on Sisters Road Ponchatoula and was at a local hospital ready to turn himself in. Deputies located Jonathan in the hospital parking lot.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found Ashley in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. Her dog was also shot during the argument.
Officials say Jonathan told detectives he woke up angry, grabbed a shotgun, and killed his mother and her dog, who were both sleeping in the bed.
The teen was booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, cruelty to animals, and aggravated crimes against nature.
