Man indicted for beating 4-yr-old after child bit him

A Lutcher man was indicted for attempt first degree murder after he allegedly beat a 4-year-old child because he lost his temper after the child bit him.

An Ascension Parish Grand Jury said Clydedric Joseph, 27, beat the child severely. It’s why the grand jury did find enough evidence to move forward with a trial.

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a hospital on July 25, 2022 in reference to cruelty to a juvenile. The responding deputy said the child was in critical condition and unresponsive.

The hospital staff told the deputy that the child had “internal bleeding that consisted of a lacerated spleen, blood around his left abdominal adrenal gland near his kidney, blood around his kidney and a contusion to his left lung as well as bruising and lacerations to the face.”

The hospital staff added the injuries had happened within the last eight hours.

Deputies reached out to the baby’s mother who said Joseph was watching her son because he had to stay home from school that particular day because he had a cut and was bleeding from the lip. Joseph was in a relationship with the mother.

The child is expected to recover.

Joseph allegedly beat the child while the child’s mother was at work. Joseph at first denied hitting the child, but later confessed saying “he lost control on the juvenile striking him in the face with a closed fist” after the 4-yr-old bit him.

Joseph was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for attempt second degree murder but a jury upgraded the charge.
