Man arrested, accused of setting BR business on fire

BATON ROUGE — Fire Investigators for St. George Fire Protection District arrested Jonathon Matthew Jordan for felony simple arson.

Jordan was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison by Baton Rouge City Fire Department arson investigators on Sept. 5 for a similar arson incident in Baton Rouge.

Officials say St. George Fire investigators determined that on Aug. 16 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Jordan piled various combustible materials along the rear exterior wall at the rear emergency exit of Sage Outpatient Services on Picardy Ave. Authorities say Jordan is suspected of using lighter fluid to ignite the pile of combustible materials.

According to fire investigators, the fire went undiscovered and burned throughout the night until a pile of charred debris and ashes remained. Employees discovered the incident upon arriving at work the following morning. The fire and subsequent cleanup caused over $100,000 worth of damage and temporarily disrupted business operations.
