BATON ROUGE — East Baton Rouge deputies arrested a man for a charge of attempted second-degree murder after he allegedly ran over his girlfriend during an argument. The girlfriend had at least two protective orders against the man. This is not the first time he’s been arrested on domestic-related charges, according to arrest records.
The incident occurred on Aug. 10 at a home on Cherryl Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. That’s off of Greenwell Springs Rd. near N. Flannery Rd.
Around 2:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a call about an attempted murder. Once there, detectives learned that Christian Coleman was at the home to confront his live-in girlfriend about an ongoing argument.
During the argument, Coleman’s girlfriend attempted to leave, which is when he allegedly punched her in the face, according to an arrest warrant. She continued to try and get away, but Coleman then got into a Chrysler Sebring and drove toward her, documents said. According to officials, Coleman intentionally hit his girlfriend with the vehicle and also ran over her.
“The victim continued her attempt to escape, at which point the Accused entered a red 2008 Chrysler Sebring, accelerated toward the victim, and intentionally struck and ran over her,” the warrant reads.
After hitting her, he allegedly attempted to block her from getting help at a nearby business. However, bystanders called 911.
The woman was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Coleman fled the scene, but was arrested shortly after by EBRSO patrol deputies. The Chrysler Sebring was found in a nearby wooded area and had been concealed.
Witnesses told officials that the couple has a history of “domestic violence incidents,” according to the arrest record.
Coleman was arrested and booked on attempted second-degree murder and domestic abuse battery. He also had an active warrant through Baton Rouge Police for battery of a dating partner.
After his arrest, Coleman admitted to deputies that he had driven the Chrysler and chased after his girlfriend with the vehicle. However, he denied hitting her with it, the arrest report says.
According to court records, the woman has had multiple protective orders against Coleman.
He is in parish prison on a $260,000 bond.

Previous incidents
In July, Coleman’s girlfriend called Baton Rouge Police after she attempted to get her car back from him. According to a warrant, she told police that she allowed Coleman to use her car but went to go get it after finding out he was giving rides to women in her car.
When she arrived at the location to confront Coleman, she said that he “became aggressive with her, punched her in the face with a closed fist, busting her lip.” The warrant continues on, “Coleman then busted her front windshield and damaged the brake shifting cable before leaving with friends.”
According to the warrant, the woman denied medical help but said she’d like to press charges. Officers secured an arrest warrant on July 11 for Coleman for battery of a dating partner and criminal damage to property.
Coleman has multiple prior arrests, including other domestic violence charges, according to EBRSO.
He had a warrant for battery of a dating partner, theft of a motor vehicle, and theft in February.
Coleman had multiple arrests in May this year, as well, including one for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was also arrested for battery of a dating partner (strangulation) on May 5 and domestic abuse child endangerment on May 12.
Coleman bonded out of prison on May 19. His bond was $5,000.
