BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge Police officer was sitting in his marked unit outside a store when he suddenly heard shattering glass and saw an object crash through the rear windshield of his car. The object, later identified as a brick, had been thrown by a suspect, who fled the scene before the officer could catch him.
The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on February 20 in the parking lot of the Shoppers Value store on Airline Highway.
While officers were documenting the damage to the vehicle, a witness who saw the brick being thrown, informed officers that the suspect was still walking in the parking lot.
Officers returned to the area and found the man, identified as 33-year-old Emmitt Cossett. When questioned, Cossett denied throwing the brick at the officer’s vehicle.
He was arrested and charged with one count of simple damage to property.
