The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Lionel Haile, 28, for attempted second degree murder.
Deputies say Haile allegedly “attacked and stabbed” a United States postal worker multiple times while she was delivering mail at an apartment complex in Zachary on New Year’s Eve.
The incident took place on Dec. 31st around 12:45pm at 1233 Mt. Pleasant Rd. in Zachary, La.

EBRSO said the postal employee told deputies that she was organizing the mail inside her truck when a man came up to her asking if she wanted a bottle of water. When he returned with the bottle, deputies said after the postal employee accepted the bottle, she turned her back. That’s when officials say Haile allegedly dragged the postal employee out of the truck, threw her to the ground and violently started stabbing her with a knife.
The mail lady was able to fight him off and escape. She’s currently at a hospital expected to survive her injuries.
Haile was arrested for attempted second degree murder.
Deputies said Haile does have an extensive criminal history including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a firearm and narcotics related charges.
