LIVINGSTON — A man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 22-year-old who was found laying in the road in Denham Springs earlier this week.
26-year-old Kylin Jamar Sexton of Hammond is charged with felon in possession of a firearm and second-degree murder.
According to officials, Sexton was given a ride from the Albany area to a party in Denham Springs early on Sunday, Dec. 21. While the others in the vehicle went inside to the party, Sexton reportedly stayed outside.
There, LPSO says that he got into an argument with 22-year-old Tyree Lionel Worthy and then shot him. After shooting Worthy, Sexton allegedly got into the vehicle in which he’d been given a ride and drove off without permission from the owner.
It was around 3 a.m. when deputies responded to Longwood Drive for a shooting. At the scene, they say they found Worthy in the middle of the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive his injuries.
According to LPSO, Sexton is currently on State and Federal probation for weapons and drug charges.
LPSO detectives initially requested the public’s help finding the vehicle Sexton fled in. He was located by detectives in Tangipahoa Parish on Dec. 22nd. He was initially booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail as a fugitive and then transported to the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
He is being held without bond in the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
