Man arrested in Prairieville carjacking

PRAIRIEVILLE — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Gonzales man accused of carjacking over the weekend.

Officials say Brent Chambliss, 53, was arrested and charged with carjacking, aggravated flight of an officer and aggravated battery, among other charges.

According to authorities, deputies responded to reports of a carjacking at a fast food restaurant on Hwy 42 in Prairieville on Oct. 13 at around 9 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found a woman with visible head injuries.

The victim told deputies that Chambliss removed her from her vehicle after hitting her in the head with a gun.

Deputies found the stolen vehicle two miles from the scene and attempted a traffic stop. Officials say Chambliss led deputies on a short pursuit before crashing into a tree.

He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
