Man arrested in shooting that left 8-year-old injured

The Livingston Parish Sherrif’s Office arrested a man accused of shooting an 8-year-old in May.

Jaran Adams, 21, was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting, and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a statement that in May LPSO detectives were investigating two separate incidents of shots fired at Pardue Road in Springfield. Ard said Adams was linked to the May 12th incident where an 8-year-old girl was shot.

Multiple shots were fired toward a residence striking a vehicle that the juvenile was sitting in. It was the second shooting incident within two days along the same stretch.

The young girl was transported for treatment after being shot once in the lower extremities.

Adams was processed into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
