The man convicted of killing Zachary firefighter and reserve police officer Chris Lawton was sentenced to 40 years in prison Friday.
Albert Franklin was convicted of manslaughter in October.
The incident occurred in a Walmart parking lot on March 12, 2018.
Lawton was trying to serve Franklin an arrest warrant at the Walmart when Franklin tried to leave the scene and ran over Lawton with a U-Haul Truck.
Lawton was the first police officer in Zachary department’s history to be killed in the line of duty.
