BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge man has been arrested again for allegedly throwing a brick at a Baton Rouge Police officer’s patrol car, shattering the rear window. Emmitt Cossett was arrested less than a month after being taken into custody for the same offense back in February.
This time, Cossett’s charges have been upgraded. He now faces one count of simple criminal damage to property and one count of a hate crime.
According to arrest records, the most recent incident happened on March 19 around 10:30 p.m. A Baton Rouge Police officer was sitting in his marked unit in the parking lot of Shoppers Value on Airline Highway when a brick struck the rear windshield. It was the same location, and reportedly the same police unit, as in the February incident.
Cossett, identified as the suspect, fled the scene after throwing the brick.
His bond was set at $5,000. As part of the bond conditions, he must submit to drug testing every 30 days and follow a court-ordered curfew. A bond review hearing is scheduled for April 17.
Cossett was previously arrested in February for the same thing: throwing a brick into the officer’s vehicle while the officer was inside. That brick similarly shattered the rear window. At the time, he was charged with simple criminal damage to property, and his bond was set at $1,000.
In both cases, Cossett denied throwing anything at the officer’s vehicle, according to arrest records.
