BAYOU L’OURSE – Kelton Smith, a Bayou L’Ourse man, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 26 on multiple domestic and other felony charges after running from deputies and initiating a pursuit.
Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Kelton Javon Smith, 27, of Bayou L’Ourse, after he allegedly led them on a pursuit through the area on Thursday. He was wanted for domestic charges from earlier this summer..
On July 27, deputies were called out to Murial Street to check out a disturbance. They interviewed a woman there who told deputies she was in a relationship with Smith and was pregnant. She told them that she and Smith were arguing when things became physical and Smith allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
After investigating, deputies filed felony domestic-related charges against Smith, who had left the scene and was at large.
On Sept. 26, deputies spotted and attempted to stop Smith in his vehicle in the Aristle Road area of Bayou L’Ourse. Instead, Smith fled and deputies pursued him. Deputies say they observed Smith throw some unknown items from the vehicle during the pursuit.
At some point in the chase, Smith crashed the vehicle and ran into the swampy area nearby. Deputies then pursued him on foot and were able to take him into custody.
Smith was transported to a local hospital after he told the deputies that he had ingested drugs.
After his release from the hospital, authorities transported and booked Smith into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. He was arrested on the following charges:
• Warrant – Aggravated Battery
• Warrant – Domestic Abuse Battery Upon a Pregnant Victim
• Battery Upon a Peace Officer
• Resisting an Officer (4 Counts)
• Aggravated Flight from an Officer
• Detainer – Probation/Parole Violator
Smith remains in jail, awaiting a bond hearing.
