Man fatally shot inside car overnight in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge police are investigating after a man was shot and killed inside his car overnight.

It happened on Merganzer Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. This is an area just off Southern University’s campus near Scenic Hwy. and Mills Ave.

BRPD says Eishmel Spears, Jr., 69, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sources tell UWK that Spears dropped off a friend nearby and was shot while in his vehicle.

Police say the gunman or gunmen fled the scene. Detectives reportedly found shell casings in the roadway near Spears’ vehicle.
