Man shot & killed in Baton Rouge is the 24th homicide so far in 2024

BATON ROUGE — It was after 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, when Baton Rouge Police officers responded to a call for a shooting.

The scene was unfolding in the 5400 block of Byron Ave., that’s near Plank Rd. & Evangeline St. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He died on the scene from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Reginald Millican, 46.

This shooting death marks the 24th homicide in Baton Rouge so far in 2024. Last year at this time, Baton Rouge Police officers had 12 homicides. So far this year, there is a 100% increase in homicides compared to last year.

Around 11:30 p.m., there was a separate shooting that started with an argument inside the DC Eats on Plank Rd. that spilled outside. Someone shot a round. A person was hit and transported to a hospital by an off-duty police officer. The victim had non-life threatening injuries.
