BATON ROUGE — A 20-year-old man, who was accused of murder at 15, has been arrested, accused in the brutal July beating, stabbing and rape of a woman police say he knows.
The woman reported that Tyson Wright, 20, woke her up between 10 and 11 p.m. on July 13 when he allegedly punched and hit her with a pistol. Her attacker is then accused of stabbing her at least seven times before raping her. The man also took her phone and didn’t allow her to call for help, Wright’s arrest warrant said.
The woman was eventually able to get a rideshare to the hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. From there, hospital staff bought her a bus ticket and had security personnel escort her to the bus station so she could stay with a relative in Texas, the warrant said.
Tyson was booked on Tuesday, Sept. 29 with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree rape, false imprisonment and theft.
A criminal past
In 2022, Tyson was 15 when he was accused of killing 36-year-old Dolores Jackson, court records show. Jackson was in her front yard on Cadillac Street when gunfire erupted between two groups of juveniles. A stray bullet hit Jackson, whose 3-year-old son tried to wake her up after she collapsed, police said.
A grand jury declined to charge Wright in that killing, court records show.
In 2024, Wright was arrested for battery of a dating partner with strangulation. He pleaded guilty to simple battery, court records show.
Judge Louise Hines sentenced Wright to a year of unsupervised probation with a possibility of having the case retroactively dismissed if he met all his probation requirements, according to court records. He missed three January 2026 court dates, but did show up for court in February. His next court appearance was set for April 2026, but he missed that date as well and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
