A man was thrown into the Whiskey Bay after a vehicle hit his car that was parked on the I-10 shoulder tossing him over the bridge.

VEHICLE PARKED ON THE SHOULDER OF I-10 EASTBOUND THAT WAS HIT FROM BEHIND

At 10:07am, a call to 911 reported a two-vehicle wreck on I-10 eastbound at mile marker 129.6, better known as Whiskey Bay.

The initial investigation shows a vehicle was broken down on the shoulder with a man working under the hood. At the same time, a red vehicle hit the car on the shoulder throwing the man into the Whiskey Bay.

First responders said people around the area threw a rope to the man. That’s what he held on to until local fishermen were able to get a boat to the man and rescue him at 10:22am, 15 minutes after he went in the water.

He will be airlifted to a Lafayette hospital. All other occupants of the two vehicles have been transported to area hospitals.

It’s unclear for now what sent the driver of the red vehicle onto the shoulder to hit the parked car.
