Man ticketed for harvesting alligator outside hunting season

Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents ticketed a man for allegedly hunting & killing nearly an 8-foot alligator on Nov. 7 in St. Charles Parish.

Agents cited Daniel Duzac, 29, for allegedly taking an alligator during a closed season following an illegal gator harvest within the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway.


LDWF agents were on patrol within the spillway near the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers field office when they saw Duzac harvest an gator by the Mississippi River flood control locks.

St. Charles Parish is included in the east zone for the alligator-hunting season, which opened on the last Wednesday of August and remained open for 60 days. Agents seized the 7 foot 9 inch alligator.

Taking a gator during a closed season brings up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail. Duzac may also face civil restitution for the replacement value totaling $375.80.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s for prosecution.
