BATON ROUGE — A 9-1-1 call early Monday morning helped crack a missing persons case that has plagued Baton Rouge for more than a week.
For the first time, the man who made that call to police after finding Nathan Millard’s body is speaking out about how he made the grisly discovery.
“It’s just something I don’t think I can ever forget”
He spoke with Unfiltered with Kiran on the condition of anonymity. His identity was verified by EquuSearch, the Texas-based nonprofit group leading the search efforts alongside Baton Rouge police.
“It’s just something I don’t think I can ever forget,” the man said.
He says he was driving through north Baton Rouge around 3 a.m. Monday when something just didn’t smell right. He says he rolled down his windows and smelled something foul.
“It smelled like something was bad or something was rotting,” he said. “At first, I thought it was a dead animal, but I didn’t see anything.”
He told UWK that he got out of his car, and he walked up to a building described as a cinderblock garage. He says that he had a flashlight and was looking around, and that’s when he saw a rug.
“At first I thought it was someone throwing out food, and then I saw the feet. That’s when I got really scared and my stomach was just turning in knots.”
An UWK crew at the scene later that morning says Millard’s body could not be seen from the street. The body was discarded in the back of the concrete structure.
“I was really terrified”
The building Millard’s body was found in is off of Scenic Hwy. near Chippewa St. It’s not far from Exxon Mobil’s Baton Rouge plant.
“I was really terrified because I’ve never, ever seen or found a deceased person,” the man told UWK. “I was pretty much terrified because I didn’t know what happened.”
Millard’s body was badly decomposed. Officials could only use fingerprints to confirm his identity.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause and manner of death.
Baton Rouge Police continue working all angles of the case, and are working closely with EquuSearch to piece together parts of the case.
So far, there have been no arrests made in the case.
EquuSearch says that the man who found Millard’s body will receive some of the cash reward that was offered in the case.

I absolutely do not know what the BRPD defines as “FOUL PLAY,” but everything about this case wreaks of FOUL PLAY!!!
Mrs. Millard is justified in requesting the State Police get involved to conduct a more thorough investigation – clearly, the BRPD needs a lot of help, as they have been incompetent from the start. (not taking more action in the beginning – not collecting Mr. Millard’s cellphone, not obtaining more camera footage of his whereabouts, not collecting the entire rug for fiber collection/DNA, etc.).
Shame on Mayor Broome for not contacting Mrs. Millard to offer her condolences!
This is the type of unfortunate event that causes BR to have such a black eye as we are becoming more and more famous for all the wrong reasons – HIGH CRIME!!!
