Memorial planned Wednesday on anniversary of SU students’ deaths

BATON ROUGE – There will be a memorial Wednesday evening to honor three Southern University band members who were killed one year ago.

December 6 marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic deaths of Southern University students and band members Broderick Moore, Dylan Young, and Tyran Williams. The memorial is open to the public and will be held on Southern’s campus’s Issac Greggs Band Building lawn starting at 4:45 p.m.

Williams, 19, Young, 21, and Moore, 19, were changing a flat tire on a 1999 Jeep Laredo that stalled on the northbound shoulder of I-49 when a big rig drifted off the road and hit the left side of the jeep.

Williams, Young, and Moore were all pronounced dead on the scene. The big rig driver suffered no injuries.

Moore was a freshman music major from Cedar Hill, TX. Young was a sophomore mechanical engineering major from Cedar Hill, and Williams was a freshman music major from Irving, TX.
