Mississippi man killed in single-vehicle crash in St. Tammany

A Mississippi man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish on Sept. 28.

State police say Errol Childs, 38, was traveling northbound on Interstate 59 in a Toyota Tundra before it drove off the road and hit a utility pole. The truck caught fire after hitting the pole.

Authorities say Childs was a passenger in the vehicle and it’s unknown if any of the three passengers were wearing seatbelts. The driver and the other passenger were transported to a local hospital for serious injuries.

Impairment on behalf of the driver is unknown at this time, however routine toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained.

While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
