‘Mom hit dad’: Two Baton Rouge Police officers arrested in separate domestic incidents

BATON ROUGE — Two Baton Rouge Police officers were arrested in separate domestic incidents and are now currently on restricted duty. Darnell Brown was arrested by BRPD while Aimee Adams was arrested by East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies.

‘Mom hit dad’ with an argument over a cell phone bill

Aimee Adams, 33, was arrested after an incident unfolded with her boyfriend of several years over a cell phone bill, records show. It was May 24 around 9 p.m. when Adams and her boyfriend got into a verbal argument in front of three children under the age of 13. That argument then turned physical when Adams, who is a Baton Rouge Police officer, allegedly slapped her boyfriend across the left side of his face, a warrant outlines.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and said the “victim’s left ear was reddish, which was consistent with being struck.” Plus a 7-year-old child at the home told the deputies that “mom hit dad,” according to the warrant. The deputies also said they looked at camera footage that showed the two allegedly yelling at each other after “the victim was struck.”

The victim told deputies that it was around 8:30 p.m. when the two started arguing over a cell phone bill. He then ordered fast food through a delivery app, which arrived just after 9 p.m. He told deputies when he went to the front porch to pick up his order, Adams allegedly came up behind him and asked him ‘what he said?’

He replied “You’re a bum,” according to the warrant, at which time the argument turned physical and Adams allegedly slapped the man, hitting his left ear. That’s when he called 911.

When deputies asked Adams what happened, she allegedly admitted the two got into a verbal argument and then she hit him, but she added that she “struck the victim in self-defense.” Deputies said that was not consistent with all the information they had from their investigation.

Adams was booked into the parish prison on one count of domestic abuse battery child endangerment.

Second BRPD officer arrested on separate domestic incident

UWK has learned that Officer Darnell Brown, who often appears on the show Live Patrol, was arrested for a domestic incident. Details surrounding his arrest have not been released.

The parish prison did not have a mugshot on the officer so it’s unclear if he was arrested and booked into the prison or if he was only issued a summons.

Both officers’ current status with BRPD is not known at this time. Per BRPD’s policies and procedures, the officers are placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. BRPD confirmed both officers are now on restricted duty.
