SAINT AMANT —- A 51-year-old motorcyclist from Ascension Parish died in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning.
It was just after 10:30 a.m. on October 25, 2024 when State Police Troopers responded to the crash on LA 935, just east of LA 431 in Ascension Parish.
Rodney Michel, 51, of Saint Amant, died in the crash.
The preliminary investigation shows that Michel was driving a 2016 Harley-Davidson west on LA 935 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2002 Ford F-250 was headed the opposite direction on LA 935. For reasons still under investigation, Michel lost control of his motorcycle, was ejected, landed in the eastbound lanes of travel on LA 935, and was then hit by the Ford.
Michel was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash and died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was properly buckled at the time of the crash and was uninjured.
Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash, however, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation.
