Missing swimmer’s body recovered from Amite River

LIVINGSTON — The body of a missing swimmer has been found in the Amite River, according to officials. His name will not be released pending notification to family. His body was located under the water in the immediate area where crews had been searching since Wednesday evening.

The calls for help came in after 5 p.m. in Livingston Parish around the French Town Conservation at the Amite River. That search then spanned into East Baton Rouge Parish.

Early reports are that multiple officials are looking for a missing swimmer in the Amite River. It appears a group of friends were swimming when one person went under but did not resurface.

Neighboring agencies’ dive teams were called in to help fire rescue crews search for the missing man.
