POINTE COUPEE — Acadian Ambulance confirms two people have died after an ambulance crashed into a semi at a high rate of speed, UWK has learned.
The woman driving the Acadian Ambulance died as well as the patient they were transporting, according to officials. She has been identified as Kymber Nezat.
The other Acadian employee on the ambulance, Hunter Fruge, and Coca-Cola truck driver were airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital in critical condition.
The fatal crash happened on Morganza Hwy. near Deaton Ln. southeast of Morganza near Labarre on Tuesday, June 27.
Officials tell UWK that the Acadian Ambulance hit the 18-wheeler head-on. There was significant damage to the ambulance. The exact number of injuries are unknown at this time.
Acadian Ambulance said, “(We) are cooperating with the law enforcement officials investigating the scene and have no other information to release at this time. The entire Acadian family extends our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and of the injured.”
A blood drive has been set up for the victims Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge and Ascension Parish.
