Murder suspect arrested after brief pursuit

Baton Rouge Police is investigating a fatal shooting on South Choctaw that happened at around 1 p.m. on Nov. 20.

BRPD detectives say Jessie Johnson, 22, was shot and killed in the 9000 block of South Choctaw Drive. Johnson and one passenger were inside a vehicle when three suspects in a Ford 150 began shooting.

Johnson died at the scene. The passenger, a 25-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Authorities say uniformed officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling on Airline Highway with the help of concerned citizens. The suspects led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit and bailed from their vehicle in the 10600 block of Airline Hwy.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Jakai Johnson after a brief foot pursuit. Two other unidentified suspects are still at large.

Johnson was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
