Murder suspect leads police on chase that ended with crash

Kirkpatrick Franklin, 52, has been released from the hospital now and charged with second degree murder. He’s accused of leading police on a chase Thursday when officers went to arrest him in connection to a murder on Bradley St. Sunday night.

ORIGINAL:

A police chase ended in a crash with a murder suspect now at a hospital and in police custody.

BRPD’s Special Response Unit including the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force were tipped off about a possible murder suspect’s location.

Officers spotted him the suspect, who is wanted in connection to a shooting on Bradley St. over the weekend in Baton Rouge.

Instead, the suspect fled leading agencies on a short chase down Florida Blvd. around 2pm.

Police say when the suspect tried to turn, he crashed into the black vehicle at the intersection of N. 36th & North streets.

He and the victims of the black vehicle, were all taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Once he’s able to be released, the suspect will be booked into parish prison. His name was not provided just yet.

It was around 11:30pm on Sunday, July 31st, when three people were shot on Bradley St. One person, Albert Hawkins, 21, died from his injuries.
